Recovery time from an oral accident or injury can be diminished if you take the necessary steps to care for your smile in those crucial moments after an accident has occurred. If you have suffered severe damage to your teeth to the point that bleeding has occurred, it is important to care for your mouth immediately so further damage does not occur down the road, including infections or other issues that can arise.

Objects caught between teeth are common forms of oral accidents and injuries. This is because we do have spaces between teeth that can often be filled with various objects from time to time. However, if you do have something stuck between your teeth, never try to poke and prod at it with a sharp instrument. Instead, use an interdental cleaner. This can include water flossers or dental floss to try to slowly remove the object.

If you ever have any chipped or broken teeth due to oral accidents or injuries, make sure that you rinse out your mouth with warm water. In addition, collect any broken pieces that may be lodged in your mouth. If you’re suffering from any form of bleeding, only use gauze to cover up the wound. Apply the gauze until bleeding stops. You will want to visit your dentist as soon as possible, as damage to the inner bindings of a tooth may have occurred.
